Abstract

Technological advancement such as cloud computing has particularly led to a paradigm shift in
teaching and learning where teachers and learners now have access to virtual learning resources
such as computers, networks, storage and applications which facilitate learning and enhances the
way assessment is being done. This technology promotes collaborative learning and real-time
feedback as students and teachers can seek and get help anytime and anywhere. The challenges of
traditional pen and paper mode of assessment such as printing, logistics and issues relating
marking of examinations or quizzes are reduced. This paper explores the concept of cloud
computing, cloud-based learning and assessment, types of cloud services and deployment models,
cloud-based tools and application for learning and assessment. Particularly, emphasis is laid on
applications which facilitate learning and also enhance carrying out of assessment. The paper
also discussed some benefits which the Nigerian education sector stands to gain when cloud-based
learning and assessment is adopted, while recommendations were proffered to the
challenges which often confront the integration of cloud-based technology in learning and in
doing assessment.
